I have a 2000 230 SLK that at times just shuts off while driving on highway (55-65mph) then takes between 1-15 min to start again. ALSO sometimes won't start after sitting 10 min to overnight. So far the shop (they contacted MB dealer in VA Bch to ask of them also) doesn't have any idea, no definitative reading on the diagonistic test. What's up with it?!! PLEASE help!

Don't know if this will help, but i have a 88 300ce that was doing the same thing. It was the relay switch to the fuel pump. Had it replaced by my mechanic. {Not Mercedes}. Cured the problem. I know there is a big difference in model yrs, but try it anyway. My mechanic told me that this is a frequent problem with MB"s. Good Luck.

I just bought a 2002slk 230 , i havent had any problems with it, when i bought it , from a dealer , they didnt do any service on it, which i was suprised to learn. I thought that they would of at least did a service on it. change oil ect?
So tomorow im going to run it into a local import mechanic here and have it serviced. It shows a type I service due in 5000 miles. on the computer. but i am having the brake fluid change , cabin filter. oil , so at least i will know where i am at
I know this doesnt related to your problem, Ill ask the technican tomorow if he has any ideas what could be causing your problem, and post back
the car only has 35 k on it. runs like a top kompresor

I had the same problem on a 1998 SLK 230K, which was diagnosed as a faulty crank shaft positioning sensor. I had this replaced and the issue was resolved.

The fault is probably the crankshaft sensor.
It is a common fault on most mercedes models and causes the exact faults you have described.
You can either just replace it and test the car (not a big job)
or get your garage to put a scope on it and test the sensor first.
