I have a 99 slk 230. The car stops while driving without warning. After about 10 minutes it will start again. There is no pattern to this problem. It happens randomly, could be hours, days or months before it happens again. No one can figure out what the problem is. WE have had the crank sensor replaced but the problem is still there. If feels as if you have run out of gas when this happens. Someone told us it may be the fuel pump or something else within the fuel pump. WE still have the problem. We will NEVER purchase another Mercedes. The dealership/service departments think you owe them your first born child and more to have them, with all their wisdom, (who can not find the problem) to look at it. I pray we are not killed when the car breaks down on us in traffic.

Check out the history of your car. Perhaps a flood could have caused this. I have driven an slk 230 for quite a while now, and its been a good car to me. Reliable. I do keep my oil changes and maintenance in place, and use it as an every day car. Got bumbed from behind yesterday on the highway, and if not for this car, (and God's protection of course) I would be death.

Also important for all MB owners to get a reliable mechanic that works with you.

Hi

Although this is an old thread I thought of replying to it anyway. Perhaps it is of use to someone.
The problem described sounds like the typical K40 relay problem with soldering joints gone bad. It should be an easy fix and would take no more than 20 minutes.

The computer box next to the battery holds the relay (the one with the fuses on top). Remove this relay and pry open to uncover the circuit board. The 3 top joints to the top left are usually the culprits for this symptom. Resolder and the problem should be gone.

Good luck
