I have a problem with my 1999 MB ML-320 with the gas pedal.

When I start it up and push the gas pedal down nothing happens, does anyone know what may be wrong or how to fix it? The pedal and the cable work fine but it doesn't seem that the engine gets the gas. (It starts and Idles fine but doesn't accellerate)
