SLK 350 Interior ODOR

I have a 2006 SLK 350 with 32,00 miles on it. In MINT condition, except for one thing. An interior odor has developed. It smells almost exactly like children's crayons. It is least noticeable when the windows are up and the A/C is on. It is most noticeable when the windows are down and especially when the top is down. Strongest when the top is down but the windows are up. Dealers seem to be unable to fix. I think next thing is replacing A/C condenser, but I am not convinced this is the problem. When you go around the car when it is running, and literally SNIFF everywhwere that you can, you do not smell the odor. There is now a lingering residual smell in the interior of the car, and you can smell it faintly if you stick your nose right up to the A/C vents. Anyone out there who had a similar problem and found a fix?

Permalink Reply by Roy Pacheco on September 3, 2009 at 8:16am: I would suggest you check the drain from the air conditioner. It is very possible that the drain is partialy/totally blocked and the condensate over flow draining on the floor mats producing this undesired aroma.

Will check the mats, although dealer has supposedly done that. I went all over them with my hands and did not feel any dampness.; ▶ Reply to This
