I have a 2006 C230. It now has 44,000 miles. I have had multiple problems with this car. Just recently, the check engine lights keeps coming on. Today marks the 3rd time that I take the car to the dealer for the same check engine light in two weeks. I got the car back on Friday and by Saturday morning (very next day) the check engine light was back. The dealer said they change a sensor the first two times. I wonder what they will say now. I also hear a weird sound coming from the engine and the service guy said it was normal for a c-class Mercedes. The funny thing is that I didn't hear this sound 4 months ago. Now it's normal according to the Mercedes service person. I will keep telling the service department to keep checking on this noise that I hear. I know the service person doesn't like me very much because I keep telling them the same thing and they don't want to hear that. If you are planning to purchase a similar, please think about it twice because you might see the same problems in your future.

I have a 06 C280 and I am having the exact same problems. My car has 50,000 miles and the check engine light comes and goes. I have had it looked at, they can't tell me what it is. I have a constant rattling sound that is coming from the rear of the car and to top it all off... once the warranty expired, my passenger rear door, the lock broke inside the door and will not open. Both the front passenger and driver door, the door handles have snapped off the doors. I am not a big girl, so I KNOW that I am not that strong. I have had multiple problems with the radio shutting down and not working for over 24 hrs. I got the excuse that I had a bad 6 disc changer. Really? They replaced it 3 times and all 3 were bad?? This has been the worst purchase of my life and I will NEVER buy another Mercedes.

Try using a '91 Premium gasoline and make sure the gas cap is securely lock when done pumping gasoline. It's also in the manual.

I use premium gas every time I fill up the tank... the engine light stays on.

I had a similar problem (the engine light coming on). The first time the dealer changed the sensor and all was OK. Then the problem reappeared. I took it back and this time the dealer made an exhaustive check of the engine, even contacting Mercedes (in Germany I think) about the problem which I think, from memory, was a minuscule 'flaw' in a machined part which allowed a slight oil leak.
